The Boreal Forest Stretches Around the World

As you can see, the Boreal Forest stretches around the world.  It's not just limited to Alberta or Canada.  We had a great conversation regarding what would happen if the Boreal Forest was seriously damaged or destroyed.

The class realized this would impact the quality of the air we breathe, that our ecosystem would be thrown out of balance, and that tourists would no longer be able to visit such beautiful areas.

As a part of our unit, we are learning where the Boreal Forest falls in relation to other provinces of Canada and regions of Alberta.

During our class brain storm we described the Boreal Forest as being:
-in northern Alberta
-not in the Rocky Mountain or Parkland region
-north from the United States
-in Alberta, but it goes outside of Alberta -- it goes into other provinces and wraps around the world
-south of the territories

Our Beginning Understanding

Prior to beginning our studies of the Boreal Forest region, the class was asked to share (in a few lines), any understanding or information they think they already know about this region.

Below are some of the responses.  This is our starting point.  At the end of the unit we will ask the question again and compare the answers.  We hope to see a well-developed understanding of the Boreal Forest.

Feel free to comment and ask questions.

Students - see if you can figure out which response are related to geography, animal life, tourism, or landforms.
